A 17-year-old with anxiety and difficulty sleeping

This specific case was assessed with a blood test to evaluate thyroid, iron and blood sugar levels as possible causes. An adrenal saliva test was also performed to measure cortisol levels, a hormone found in saliva. The results indicated iron deficiency anemia, low thyroid and a reduced cortisol adrenal response (low in the morning and high at night, which explained the poor sleep). Treatment suggestions included iron supplementation, adrenal management and thyroid support. Acupuncture for anxiety was available if needed.

* All cases at Progressive Natural Health are assessed and co-managed, if needed, with other doctors for necessary medications, pain management or referral for a secondary opinion.
